As Africa struggles to address various development challenges in the housing, health and education sectors, forests are burning every year due to deforestation to make way for construction

The deforestation is cited as a cause of the loss of natural forests that have helped combat carbon emissions for centuries.

The main argument is that while large amounts of trees are cut down, the number of new trees planted is small and therefore every year communities witness their homes and institutional areas empty without shade, timber or fruit trees

Women in Kagera Nkanda ward in Kasulu district gather at the construction site of a Health Center to prepare the area by removing bushes after men cut down trees

Education and awareness on planting, maintaining and harvesting sustainable forests is needed to cope with climate change in Africa
